Christmas Prep | Gingerbread Syrup

Christmas scene with ginger syrup

When Christmas rolls around, gingerbread seems to appear everywhere. From biscuits to beautifully decorated gingerbread houses, it's one of those festive traditions that instantly makes a home feel more Christmassy.

Gingerbread syrup recipe and instructions

Of course, while gingerbread houses look wonderful, they can sometimes take more patience than many of us have to spare during the busy festive season.

If you'd like all the cosy flavour without the construction project, we have a simpler alternative: homemade gingerbread syrup.

It's quick to make, smells wonderful bubbling away on the hob, and adds a touch of festive magic to all sorts of seasonal treats. You'll need:

  • 300g golden caster sugar
  • 200ml water
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Edible gold glitter (optional, but highly encouraged)

Method

  1. Add the sugar, water, ground ginger and cinnamon stick to a saucepan and bring gently to the boil.
  2. Simmer for around five minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. If you're feeling festive, stir through a little edible gold glitter. After all, a bit of sparkle never hurt anyone at Christmas.
  4. Carefully pour the syrup into a clean bottle and allow it to cool.

How to enjoy it: This warming syrup is delicious stirred into:

  • Hot chocolate
  • Warm apple juice
  • Coffee
  • Prosecco
  • Ice cream
  • Pancakes and waffles

It's the perfect accompaniment to a quiet December afternoon spent decorating the tree, wrapping presents, or relaxing in your favourite matching Christmas pyjamas with a festive film on in the background.

Simple, delicious, and wonderfully Christmassy.

Love,
Fi
