An Open Letter to Anyone Not “Doing” Valentine’s Day
If Valentine’s Day feels like a lot, this is for you.

Not everyone approaches the 14th of February with excitement. For some, it’s a reminder of loss, change, heartbreak or longing. For others, it’s simply a day that doesn’t resonate. And that’s more than okay. You don’t owe Valentine’s Day your energy, your money or your enthusiasm.
There’s a version of love that doesn’t involve cards or flowers. It lives in routines, in care, in the everyday choices that keep us going. It’s the cup of tea you make for yourself before bed. The early night you didn’t feel guilty about. The comfort of something familiar at the end of a long day. At Their Nibs, we believe those moments matter just as much, if not more, than the big gestures.
Choosing Comfort Is Still Choosing Love
Opting out of Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean opting out of love. It can mean choosing rest. Choosing softness. Choosing to do the evening your way. Maybe you’ll spend it alone. Maybe you’ll be with family, friends, or your dog on the sofa. Maybe you’ll treat it like any other day and that’s perfectly valid too.
For Anyone Who Needs Permission to Keep It Simple
If you’ve felt pressure to “do” Valentine’s Day in a certain way, consider this your permission slip to let that go. There’s no right way to mark the day, and there’s certainly no obligation to mark it at all.
Sometimes the most radical thing you can do is be kind to yourself. To choose comfort. To put something soft on and let the day pass quietly.
